When we think of doing battle against the terrible cancer cells the first things that spring to mind are radiation therapy and chemotherapy or surgery. However, the case of Dr. Odile Fernandez undoubtedly will make us reflect and evaluate other options that could become a complement to the usual treatments.
Odile Fernández is a Spanish doctor who was diagnosed in 2010 with ovarian cancer with multiple metastases, whose five year survival rate was only 5%. After a number of years, not only has she overcome cancer, but she has become a mother for the second time too.
How did she manage to overcome such a situation?
Part of Odile’s story is included in her book “My Anti-Cancer Recipes”, which was published a few months ago and which is now in its 5th edition. The title of the book is based on Odile’s own experience, but it is not based on a treatment that is “magic”. The idea which the author/patient wants to convey in her work is that we can do a lot in our fight against cancer by changing our diets and improving some of our living habits.
One has to be courageous to deal with certain changes and cope with the illness face to face instead of having palliative chemotherapy carried out, which only provides us with a few more years of life. The star of our story chose to be brave and fight by starting off with the elimination of all refined and sugary foods (high sugar levels could be related to the development of some types of cancer).
She then chose to eliminate barbecued, fried and precooked meals from her diet. The changes that followed were perhaps the most difficult because they were in relation to her way of life. Odile then decided to learn how to maintain peace of mind through meditation, as well as doing physical exercise on a regular basis. She lost weight and managed to relax when faced with many different situations through a healthy exercise of using the word “no”.
Avoiding problems of milk and meat
This was followed by discarding some foods which were also dismissed from her recipes such as milk and meat. Milk is a food we should eat only during childhood. As far as red meat and sausages are concerned, there seems to be a link between their consumption and the development of cancer, especially colon cancer.
There are no miracle cures against cancer
Odile ‘s case is both interesting and encouraging. In any case, at Best Doctor, we must keep in mind that miracle cures do not exist. In the event of having cancer, your first concern should be to get an accurate diagnosis by seeking a second opinion if possible. This is an essential first step in order to be able to safely deal with cancer.
Always put yourself in the hands of professionals and gain a real commitment to the treatment of your illness and health. You are the most important person involved in your healing process, even more so than your specialist.
